Introduction: Health literacy is the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process and understand basic health information needed to make appropriate health decisions. The functional health literacy plays an important role in promoting public health. This study aimed to evaluate the level of functional health literacy and its related factors in Hamadan. Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 233 participants aged 18 and older who were referred to health centers in Hamadan were selected by multistage sampling. Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults questionnaire (TOFHLA) was used to collect data and all of questionnaires were completed by interview. Regression analysis, ANOVA and independent t- test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Mean age of participants was 30.78±7.38 years. The average health literacy score was 64.58± 16.77 from 100 points and 52.9 percent of the adult population did not have enough level of health literacy. In other hand, more than half of participants had inadequate and borderline health literacy. Health literacy had a significant relationship with age, sex and education level (p< 0.01).
