The Relationship between Dimensions of Domestic Violence and Social Determinants of Health among pregnant Women

چکیده
Introduction: Domestic violence occurs in all countries but its prevalence varies greatly across the world and remains unacceptably high with numerous consequences ranging from psychological to maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity outcomes in pregnant women. The aim of this study was to identify the relationship between dimensions of domestic violence and social determinants of health in pregnant Women. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out with 1067 pregnant women in Hamadan (2016). The survey comprised of: (a) socio-demographics; (b) health status; and (c) social experiences. Associations between social determinants of health (SDH) and domestic violence were explored and multivariable regression analysis was conducted. Results: The results showed that the total of domestic violence (inall types) was 88%. Physical violence 6.4% sexual violence 18.9%and mean score of psychological violence was the highest (87.9%) Some variables, specifically the age above 40y, marital age under 15y, Duration of marriage above 15 y, housewife, illiteracy, Married more than once, illiterate husband, unemployed, husband addiction, husband with chronic disease, the survivor’s income status, and the number of children, household, husband with chronic disease, life in rural and suburban, unwanted pregnancy show a significant link to the types of domestic violence (p<0.0010). Conclusion: Domestic violence is often unseen and is a wide spread form of gender-based violence affecting women the world over. Attention to the SDH can improve health in the community. Intersectional collaboration and emphasis on social determinants of health play an important role in reducing domestic violence. SDH approach is necessary to policy makers until health finds own places in all policies. Keywords: Domestic violence, Pregnancy, Victim, social determinants of health
