چکیده
Introduction: The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of three different methods of exercises, including mental, observational and physical exercise on acquisition and retention of long shot skill in Badminton in 13-and 16- year- old teenage students. Methods: The sample population included all students active on the Sportive and Cultural Center of Kermanshah in the educational year of 2010-11 Based on this population a sample group of 80 participants was selected via random sampling method. These 80 participants were assigned to four groups (three experimental and one control group). The study was conducted in the field and the measures used were the skill of Badminton long shots. For examination of these measures, we conducted three methods of exercise include mental practice (Mental imagery without previous practice), observational practice (Video-tape exercise observed without practice) and physical practice (practice of skill without any feedback). The study was conducted as a semi-empirical study in which after pretest and 6- session exercise acquisition test was administrated and then after 72 hour tapering, retention test in all participants. Findings: The data provided were analyzed by the SPSS-16 software and Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistical test, repeated measure ANOVA and Tukey as a post hoc test in the level of significance of 0.05. The results indicated that there was a statically significant difference between the mean scores of control group and physical, observational and mental exercise groups in the acquisition and retention stage (P < 0.05). There was also a significant difference between pretest with retention in all experimental groups, but there was no significant difference between acquisition and retention stages. In acquisition and retention stage, we observed a significant difference between physical exercise group and mental and observational groups, but, in this stage, there were no significant differences between mental
